When you and one of your best friend’s have your first child free New Year’s Eve night in over a decade, what do you do? We scrolled online for hours looking for the perfect night in London and finally booked Evolution London’s New Year’s Eve Ball.

London meets New York

Smart Christmas Parties really did put on a show, with stage performances from the Lion King and Moulin Rouge, impressive acrobatics on silks and a live band to see in the New Year. It felt like being part of an immersive theatre, walking into a drinks reception set in Times Square, with surprise acts popping up from the likes of sitcom Friends, and big band classics like ‘New York, New York’.

 If that wasn’t enough, they threw in a bit of nostalgia with good old dodgems and table karaoke to rock classics and some old school hits from the DJ until 3am.

Cinderella didn’t meet her Prince

I joked with friends in the weeks leading up to New Year’s that I was Cinderella going to a ball and I was going to meet my Prince Charming at the stroke of midnight, LOL.

At 10pm, I clocked eyes and smiled at a very handsome man in a maroon velvet jacket, black fitted trousers and bow-tie, with a very sophisticated side swept hairstyle. I guessed he was in his early 30s, so as I walked to the bar, to my surprise he continued staring. When I turned back, he shouted, you can’t smile at me like that and keep walking. A minute later he appeared at the bar and introduced himself, told us his table number and to come and find him later.

I made my presence known as we detoured to the dodgems, until he later asked for my number, explaining that he was with his folks, so kissed me on the cheek and said he’d call. Feeling flattered, we continued to dance the night away having made some friends with other parents, having the best time off, throwing shapes and being just as silly as us.

The countdown to New Year’s reached zero and sadly I didn’t kiss my Prince, but I luckily didn’t turn into a Pumpkin and I was first to give one of my best mates a kiss. She’s my rock and as two singletons, what better way to see in the new year!

We both video called our kids, not hearing a word they were saying from the celebrations and just as I hung up the phone, Mr Maroon put his hands around my waist and pulled me in for a kiss…. A few problems with that though;

  1. We collided teeth as he yanked me in (the shame)
  2. All I could think about was that he could have just seen my son in his PJs. It was a bit early for family intros (cringe)
  3. My friend and new dancing buddies were all swimming around making shark impressions giggling like teenagers

I was literally in stitches and I’m not sure he realised why I was laughing, so to no surprise he made a quick exit. Within the hour, he was on the dance floor kissing a much younger woman who out of the 1500 people at this event, happened to be from our table😂. Both equally as beautiful, and most definitely more age adept, I hope they continue to date and have their own Cinderella story 🙂
