What Is Pickleball?
Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis into a fast-paced and highly social game that is easy to learn and great fun to play. It’s become one of the fastest-growing sports in the world because almost anyone can pick it up quickly.
You don’t need previous experience, specialist equipment or a high fitness level to get started. The social nature of the game means you’ll play with different people throughout the evening, making it a fantastic way to meet new people naturally.
Perfect For Beginners
Never played pickleball before? Perfect.
- The first two club sessions will be fully coached, helping you learn the rules, understand scoring and build confidence on court.
- Our experienced coach will guide you through everything you need to know, making this the ideal introduction to the sport.
- We have four courts available, ensuring plenty of playing time throughout the evening.
- Equipment is provided.
- Simply turn up and have fun.
What To Expect
- 8:00pm Arrival and introductions
- 8:10pm Beginner coaching session
- 9:00pm Social pickleball games with player rotation
- 10:00pm Event finishes
The format is designed to help everyone mix naturally and meet multiple people throughout the evening.
More Than Just One Event…Welcome To The BDB Pickleball Social Club
This isn’t just a one-off mixer. We’ll be returning to the same venue every two weeks, giving members the opportunity to:
- Improve their game
- Build friendships
- Meet new singles regularly
- Become part of a growing social community
The first two sessions will be fully coached. After that, the first session of every month will include coaching to support new players and beginners.
Monthly Singles Socials
We know some of the best conversations happen off the court. That’s why we’ll also be organising a monthly social event in Harpenden.
First Social: Sunday 9 August at 3pm

We’ve reserved a table in the garden for relaxed drinks (and pizza if you’d like).

Venue & Arrival Information
- Address: Harpenden Leisure Centre, Leyton Road, Harpenden, AL5 2HU
- Part of Everyone Active.
- Parking: Amenbury Lane Car Park is located directly next to the leisure centre and offers approximately 290 spaces.
- Users of the leisure centre can access up to 3 hours of free parking.
- Please register your vehicle details on arrival and obtain the required parking ticket where necessary.
On Arrival: Please check in at the gym reception upon arrival. You will then be directed through to the sports hall where Eleni will welcome you and introduce you to the coach and other members.
What To Wear / Bring
- Comfortable sports clothing
- Trainers suitable for indoor sports
- Water bottle (Please note that only bottled water is permitted inside the sports hall)

Q: I’m a complete beginner. Is that okay? A: Absolutely. This event has been specifically designed for beginners and first-time players. Our coach will teach you everything you need to know.
Q: Can I come on my own? A: Yes, in fact, most people attend BDB events on their own. The format is designed to help everyone meet and mix naturally.
Q: I’ve played pickleball before. Can I still attend? A: Of course. While the first two sessions include coaching, experienced players are very welcome.
Q: Will every session be coached? A: The first two club sessions will be fully coached. After that, the first session of each month will include coaching support for beginners.
Q: Is this a dating event? A: This is a social event designed exclusively for singles. Some people attend to meet potential partners, others come to make friends, expand their social circle or simply enjoy a fun activity. Everyone is welcome.
