A Mystery Singles Night, with Purpose
For 270,000 older people in England, a whole week can pass without speaking to a friend or family member. And loneliness isn’t always about being alone. Sometimes it’s about going unnoticed, unheard or simply not having someone to share a conversation with.
We’re bringing 52 singles together in Hitchin for a festive evening of meeting new people, making connections and raising money for Age UK Hertfordshire.
This December our mystery mingle comes to The Orange Tree. All ticket money, minus card fees, goes to Age UK Hertfordshire, which runs befriending, Tea and Chat and lunch clubs for older people.

Where does my money go?
Be Dating Beautiful will donate all ticket money, minus card fees, to Age UK Hertfordshire, within 7 days of the event. Gift Aid can’t be claimed on a ticket price, but you can add a separate, optional donation with Gift Aid here.
How it works
- Everyone receives a sealed envelope on arrival. Inside is your secret role.
- A handful of guests are Suspects, each with secrets to keep. Everyone else is a Spark.
- Ask questions, swap clues, and pin what you hear on the theory board.
- Clues are released through the night. Votes go in by 9:30pm and the big reveal follows at 10pm.

Also on the night
- Raffle/ silent auction with prizes donated by local businesses. Every penny goes to the charity.
- The 365 pledge: members can pledge small acts of connection during the year, so that together we cover every day.

We’re balancing the room between men and women, so tickets are released in batches. If your group is full, join the waitlist and we’ll tell you when places open. Tickets are non-refundable.

Singles over 40 who want to meet new people, whether you’re newly single, tired of dating apps or just fancy a good night out. Most guests come alone.
Hello Hertfordshire: the 365 pledge
Your ticket covers one evening. Your pledge carries it through the year.
Over 6 million older people say just a few minutes of conversation makes a difference to their week. It doesn’t take much to change that, and it doesn’t take much time.
How it works: After you book, you’ll be invited to make one small pledge of connection in it. Between us all we can cover all 365 days, one small connection for every day of the year.
Your pledge could be:
- Getting to know a neighbour
- Asking someone how their day is going, and really listening
- Phoning or visiting an older relative or neighbour
- Inviting someone over 65 for a cuppa
- Your own idea
It takes less than about a minute via this link.
Pledges are voluntary. We’ll only share your first name if you say we can, and we’ll keep a running total on our socials. Can’t join us on the night? You can still make a pledge 🙂

Singles Event FAQs
Is this speed dating? No. It’s a relaxed singles social with a mystery game running through the evening.
Is it only for people who feel lonely? No. It’s for anyone who’d like to meet new people. The cause is connection, and everyone can play a part.
Where does my ticket money go? To Age UK Hertfordshire, as set out above.
Can I donate a raffle or auction prize? Yes please. Email eleni@bedatingbeautiful.com if you’d like to donate.
Do I have to be a Suspect? Only a few guests are chosen, and your host picks confident people who’ll enjoy it.
What age group is it for? Singles over 40.
What is the 365 pledge? Do I have to take part? It’s optional. After booking you can make a pledge to make a small act of connection, like saying hello to a neighbour or phoning a relative. It costs nothing, and you’re never asked to visit anyone you don’t know.
