Preseli Venture: Pioneers of Coasteering in North Pembrokeshire

Preseli Venture has been a leading authority in coasteering in North Pembrokeshire for over 25 years. Their experienced instructors ensure safety while maximising the thrill factor, making it a must-try adventure for anyone looking to experience the Welsh coast like never before.

Depending on tide and weather, coasteering offers a myriad of experiences, from scrambling on rocks to diving into caves and riding waves. No two coasteers are the same.

What is Coasteering?

Coasteering is not your average weekend activity. It is a blend of rock climbing, cliff jumping, sea level traversing and swimming. In simpler terms, it’s an adrenaline-packed adventure that allows you to explore the rugged beauty of coastal landscapes, like North Pembrokeshire’s, up close. This unique activity offers something for the thrill-seeker, the nature enthusiast, and the curious adventurer alike, taking you into sea caves, rock gullies, and potentially face-to-face with local wildlife.

The Journey Begins: Silence, Nerves and Realisation

Preparation started the evening before, where, over drinks, I warned my fellow adventurers that they might have to toss me in if my courage waned at the edge of a cliff. Equipped in a wetsuit, vest, shorts, swim socks, old trainers, buoyancy aid and a helmet, I certainly felt like I had all the gear with no idea.

All kitted out but very nervous

As we drove to the starting point, I fell silent, feeling very anxious about what I’d got myself into. Standing at the edge of the cliff, preparing for our first jump, a sudden clarity washed over me. This was no casual escapade; it was a leap, both literal and metaphorical, into a world of pretty extreme elements, where the safety of solid ground would be replaced by the unpredictability of churning waters. It was terrifying, yet exhilarating and in that moment, the adventure I had only dreamt of became strikingly real.

The drop off point

Beyond the Comfort Zone: The Jumps, Climbs and Swims

Each cliff jump was a battle against my instincts. My fingers clenched around the rocky edges as I questioned my sanity. But the cheers and applause from my group carried me forward, or rather, downward. As I let go and plunged into the sea, I felt a surge of adrenaline so powerful it was truly electrifying.

Safety, of course, was paramount. Throughout the journey, our skilled instructors, well-versed in the terrains, guided us expertly. Yet, the risk involved was palpable. The ocean waves crashed against the rocks as we navigated our way through. This was not an activity for the faint-hearted and yet it was in overcoming these challenges that the experience became so rewarding.

The Aftermath: Triumph and Reflection

At the end of our coasteering session, scraped hands and all, we scaled the cliff back to the walkway. Onlookers greeted us with awe, remarking either on our courage or questioning our sanity, it was hard to tell.

Would I do it again? Given the jellyfish and the haunting thought of how I would drive 200 miles back home alone if something went awry, I’m not quite sure. But the rush of adrenaline and the sense of accomplishment were indescribable. I gave myself a mental high-five for stepping out of my comfort zone and embracing an adventure that was as terrifying as it was exhilarating.

Conclusion: An Experience to Remember

Coasteering in North Pembrokeshire with Preseli Venture is not just an activity; it’s an adventure that challenges both your physical and mental boundaries. It pushes you to embrace risks, trust your capabilities and discover the untamed beauty of the coastline in the most intimate way possible. While I may not rush back for a second round anytime soon, this experience earned a 10/10 on the adrenaline scale and a lasting spot in my collection of daring exploits.

So, if you’re looking for a unique blend of excitement, fear and raw natural beauty, coasteering in North Pembrokeshire should be on your bucket list. Just be ready for an adventure that could leave you questioning whether you’re incredibly brave or just a little bit mad!
